90210 is based in California America around a group of teenagers in their senior year in high school, we get to see the variety of lifestyles they live and the drama that goes on within their dream lives.
90210 is based around drama, therefore many different camera angles are used to portray the different emotions each character is giving off. For example Naomi is recovering from a rape incident, leaving her scared and mortified, however after dealing with it for so long on her own she puts up a front although you can see in the way she acts, the pain beneath her eyes and that fake smile. Naomi's emotions are shown a lot through close ups so we as an audience are able to see the emotion she is feeling even if her friends can't. As she is one of the main characters a lot of the drama does revolve around her. Naomi is a feisty, confident character and is shown mainly in a tilt shot to show she has the power over other people as she is the one with all the money, this is portrayed in the way she carries herself and walks around as if she owns the place allowing her beauty and popularity to shine through, but we as an audience can still see that pain as the camera draws in on her. The lives of the Beverly Hill High students is set mainly around school  grounds and the beach, this straight away gives us an idea of the lifestyles the characters carry, being very wealthy a life most teenagers dream of. Many of the characters are shown in bright light, portraying their kindness and happy life, as the sun shines through California. However as drama begins to happen and the camera comes from a long shot into a close up you see the shadow come over the characters bringing darkness and tension to the situation. Music is also used withing 90210 such as non-diagetic sounds when they are on the beach happy music is being played to show the greatness of their life. Diagetic sounds are used to portray the reality such as the waves in the ocean as they crash against the surf boards and the engine of their cars as they drive around in their open top sports cars. Crab shots are used a lot within 90210 to show the characters surfing as they follow their movement throughout the ocean.
